Early Childhood Education Play Matters is due for release in November 2015. Published by ACER and written by Shona Bass and Kathy Walker. A book based on the Walker Learning Approach on play based curriculum.
The wonderful growth of Walker Learning has created a need for us to move to our next phase of implementation to enable Walker Learning Professional Development and support more accessible to educators and schools interstate, regionally and remote. To address this issue we will be launching a new initiative Monday 27th April 2015 known as Walker Learning Satellite Schools.
Anula PS in Darwin is the Inaugural Walker Learning Satellite School - the Anula team has had WL mentoring for nearly 7 years and Kerry Hudson the Principal has shown outstanding leadership towards the implementation of WL with integrity and rigor from Preschool to year 6. Anula won the 2012 Winners of Excellence in Early Childhood using WL as the platform for their presentation. Anula was one of the five schools chosen across the county to be part of the research project on WL conducted by Senior Researcher Neil Tucker.
Janelle Thorne and Simone Pedder educators at Anual PS are our first "teacher mentors" as part of the Satellite School initiative. Simone and Janelle have had mentoring from Kathy, Shona and other ELF team members for the past seven years. They were both accredited in WL several years ago. The aim of the WL Satellite PL is for educators to book in for an observational visit at the school that will be combined with introductory PL from teacher mentors and Leadership from the school.
