This session presents a realistic and practical range of strategies to document and record information that links to the NQF expectations and is useful to share with parents and children but does not require huge amounts of time, ink, photos and writing! Early Childhood Educators: Emotional Intelligence Professional Development Sessions

Date:
22 July 2013

Kathy & Shona are running 2 great Emotional Intelligence professional development sessions on Friday, August 16 at the Early Life Foundations Centre! The first session will run from 9:00am - 12:00pm: "Emotional Intelligence as a Basis for Working as an Early Childhood Educator" ... Regain confidence in yourself as an early childhood professional! How did we arrive at a point where we are so busy taking photos and writing up stories and descriptions of children’s learning that it actually takes us away from teaching and building relationships with children? So much change in such a short space of time! As ECE’s we need to reclaim some confidence and believe in ourselves again – this session revisits our body of knowledge, our professionalism and our expertise. This session will provide practical ideas about practice, philosophy and perspectives on the framework. The second session will run from 1:00pm - 4:00pm: "Being Emotionally Present for the Child" ... Mindfulness and presence in our work and relationship with young children! This session takes a new and refreshing look at building, supporting and maintaining our relationships with children and families as we work as ECE’s. This session uses Family Therapy Models and other theories to deepen our work with children as we scaffold, extend, guide and lead their learning, skills, emotions, behaviour and interactions. To book in, please visit the 2013 Bookings page or give us a ring at (03) 9596 9056.

New Editorial Available - Early Childhood Education: Emperor's New Clothes?

Date:
15 July 2013

Our latest editorial, "Early Childhood Education: Emperor's New Clothes?" is now available! The new Early Years Framework (at least in theory) and the federal government’s long overdue acknowledgment that early childhood education is important gives us hope that Australia at last is moving in the right direction. Time will tell if this rhetoric translates to meaningful changes and not a scenario where the profession moves two steps forward and then three steps back! However Australia still has a long way to go when we consider it continues to lag behind most western countries in many areas of early childhood focus and expenditure. To read more, please download this latest editorial from the "Our Editorials" page.

Early Childhood - Intentional Teaching Through Play Professional Development Session: This professional development session provides practical ideas on how to plan and implement a program that reminds us that we are educators who promote skills and learning for children through a play-based curriculum using ‘intentional’ open-ended experiences. We don’t start planning from the children’s interests for the sake of it. We plan with intention and utilise children’s unique contexts, culture and interest as means to teaching and learning.

Cost of the National Tour professional development sessions:

- Walker Learning, Whole Day Introduction = $195 including morning tea and lunch.

- Walker Learning, Half Day Introduction =$155 including morning/afternoon tea.

- Early Childhood, Half Day/Afternoon = $135 including afternoon tea.
