The Child and Young Person at Risk Refresher Training is a non-accredited course designed for early childhood educators, managers, carers, and staff working with children and young people.

This training equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to:

NEW CHILD PROTECTION TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

To strengthen compliance across Australia, new national and state-based requirements will apply from 1 September 2025 and 1 January 2026.

General Principles (All States & Territories – Effective 1 Jan 2026)

  • Initial accredited training (CHCPRT025 or CHCPRT026) must be completed with an RTO.
  • Annual refresher training is mandatory for all staff.
  • Refreshers can be:
    • External (preferred) with certificate of completion
    • Internal, if based on current law and policy
  • Evidence must be stored in staff files and noted in the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).

IMPLEMENTATION CHECKLIST FOR SERVICES:

To ensure compliance, services should:

  • Keep copies of accredited training certificates (CHCPRT025) in staff files
  • Schedule annual refresher training for all staff
  • Use external child protection training providers for the strongest evidence of compliance
  • Record attendance, agendas, and outcomes of training sessions
  • Update the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) with training evidence
