Dr. Dee O'Connor will discuss the importance of child-initiated and self-directed play experiences, and how educators can optimise young children's learning through a play-based pedagogy.

Dr Dee O'Connor is an Associate Professor of Education at the University of Notre Dame, Australia - specialising in Early Childhood Education. Dee holds over 25 years of experience in the field within a variety of positions across early childhood practice, policy, and academia. Professor O'Connor's research relates to play, learning environments, creativity, and child development through education.
Dee's session is followed by an introductory presentation on the Walker Learning Pedagogy by our educational consultants. Walker Learning is an intentional teaching and learning approach for children in their early childhood and primary school years. Walker Learning is internationally acclaimed and has been implemented across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia for over 25 years. The pedagogy draws from the fields of developmental psychology and neuroscience and values the whole child as the starting point for all teaching and learning. Life skills are integrated across all learning areas alongside explicit instruction in the skills of literacy, numeracy, and STEM.
