TEACHING AND LEARNING THROUGH PLAY Pre Kindy to Yr 2

Presented by Dr Dee O’Connor (Associate Professor at The University of Notre Dame, Fremantle) and our experienced education consultants.

Join us for our NEW online delivery of Teaching & Learning through Play. This webinar is open to teachers and leaders across Australia and the Asia-pacific region who are interested in transitioning play-based learning into the early years of primary school (ages 5-8).

Dr. Dee O'Connor will discuss the importance of child-initiated and self-directed play experiences, and how educators can optimise young children's learning through a play-based pedagogy.

In this session we will:

  • Explore the theory of play and why play is fundamental for education in the early primary years
  • Discuss the latest neuroscientific breakthroughs and how this impacts our understandings of young children's development
  • Discover innovative ways to add value to the teaching of literacy, numeracy, STEM, and life skills
  • Provide strategies for children to explore learning through investigations that link to intentional teaching of all curricular areas

Dr Dee O'Connor is an Associate Professor of Education at the University of Notre Dame, Australia - specialising in Early Childhood Education. Dee holds over 25 years of experience in the field within a variety of positions across early childhood practice, policy, and academia. Professor O'Connor's research relates to play, learning environments, creativity, and child development through education.

Dee's session is followed by an introductory presentation on the Walker Learning Pedagogy by our educational consultants. Walker Learning is an intentional teaching and learning approach for children in their early childhood and primary school years. Walker Learning is internationally acclaimed and has been implemented across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia for over 25 years. The pedagogy draws from the fields of developmental psychology and neuroscience and values the whole child as the starting point for all teaching and learning. Life skills are integrated across all learning areas alongside explicit instruction in the skills of literacy, numeracy, and STEM.

This dynamic live webinar includes photographs and video footage from Walker Learning classrooms across Australia, workshop-style break-out rooms, an expert panel discussion, and audience Q & A.
