Child-initiated Early Writing

Exciting ideas for engaging young children in the writing process

Lynn Clere, Bridie Raban

Child-initiated Early Writing looks at making the process of learning to write enjoyable and productive for both children and educators in the years before formal schooling begins. Learning to write is a journey that requires years of patience and perseverance, and this book aims to make it a fun and engaging experience.

While the process of writing should be exciting, undue pressure can hinder progress. In our country, with the pressure of government targets, learning to write can become daunting. Instead, why not focus on making the pre-school years enjoyable and purposeful for children as they explore writing?

The ideas in this book may require initial support and guidance as children familiarize themselves with writing. Like most early years activities, children need to be shown how to use the resources initially. However, with time, they will not only master the activities but also adapt and extend them on their own.
