Exceeding the Standards – Revised Third Edition

Planning for continuous quality improvement

Susie Rosback, Bernadette Waters

Exceeding the Standards is your comprehensive guide to the National Quality Standard (NQS), a key component of the National Quality Framework for early childhood education (ECE). This resource is designed for ECE centres aiming to surpass the basic NQS requirements and achieve excellence.

Covering NQS Quality Areas 1 to 7 and their associated elements, this edition details how to attain an exceeding rating in assessments and ratings, differentiating it from the achieving rating. It also outlines the exceeding themes within the NQS and includes updates on the child safe standards adopted in Victoria in 2023, relevant to all ECE settings.
The guide offers numerous helpful documents to inspire thoughtful reflection and create opportunities for critical evaluation of practices.
