This session also includes an introductory presentation by our educational consultant on Play-based Learning through Walker Learning pedagogy.

Dr Michael Nagel is an Associate Professor, Teacher and Academic at a leading Queensland university in the areas of cognition and learning, human development and early learning, neurological development in children & adolescent psychology and is regarded as one of Australia’s foremost experts in child development.

With decades of experience as a teacher and behavioural specialist on multiple continents, Dr Nagel is a regular contributor to various journals, magazines and newspaper columns on topics dealing with education, parenting and child development including being a feature writer for Child magazine. He is a member of the prestigious International Neuropsychological Society and is a national and international speaker.

In this session we will:

  • Explore the theory of play and why play is fundamental for education in the early primary years
  • Discover innovative ways to add value to the teaching of literacy, numeracy, STEM and life skills
  • Provide strategies for children to explore learning through investigations which link to teaching of all curricular areas

Dr. Michael Nagel explores the exciting world of brain science and examines how evidence about the brain and child development can be used to guide practice, whilst observing the evidence behind the importance of play.
